"I started the Voices Journalism Program because too often young people are spoken about, but rarely listened to. I wanted to create a space where their words carry weight, where their stories are not just assignments but powerful reflections of who they are and what they experience. Voices is more than a program—it’s a platform, a movement, and a promise that every young person has a story worth telling and a voice that deserves to be heard."
— Darlene Walker-Mungin, Founder of Voices Journalism Program

The Voices Journalism Program was created to give young people the chance to tell their own stories and reshape the narratives about their communities. What began as a vision to amplify youth perspectives has grown into a space where students learn, lead, and publish their work in Voices Magazine.

We train students to think and act like reporters. Through hands-on workshops, mentorship, and real reporting assignments, participants learn the craft of journalism while developing critical skills in writing, interviewing, research, and media production. Every student contributes their work to Voices Magazine, ensuring their voices are not only heard but celebrated.

Voices reporters have covered school events, community issues, and youth experiences that often go untold. Their stories spark dialogue, encourage understanding, and inspire change. Beyond publishing, students leave the program with greater confidence, stronger communication skills, and the belief that their voices truly matter.
